Chrome Remote Desktop review

Chrome Remote Desktop is a simple and universal service for remote control of desktop computers from your mobile device. The app lets you connect Android, iOS, and iPad OS devices to Linux, Windows, and macOS desktops. The app has a minimalistic interface and doesn’t restrict the power of your PC so that you can use heavy software without lags or freezes. The app is available for free on the App Store and Google Play.

Interface – 5/5

Similarly to other apps by Google, the Remote Desktop app is also clear and straightforward. Due to this, you can interconnect devices at no time and enjoy direct remote control anywhere you go. There’s a real-time switch between keyboard and mouse controls and full compatibility with multi-touch interface gestures (if your device supports them). There’s nothing in excess – only a clear screen and the interface of your computer. You can either use it in a 100% scale or zoom it in to have larger buttons.

Content and features – 4/5

Chrome Remote Desktop offers the basic set of remote control features for average-skill users. You have to install the app, download a desktop client from Chrome web store, enter a security code, and start working. The app offers HD video and audio streaming for a crisp image without overloading your mobile device. You can install any software on your PC, Mac, or Linux, and use it without limitations.

Unfortunately, there’s no built-in client for direct file-sharing between your smartphone and PC, but you can use Google Drive for that instead. You should also remember that multiple PC displays can be displayed with mistakes is they have different resolutions.

Usability – 4/5

The app is really quick and lets you tackle a variety of tasks without any problems. Of course, it’s not a good solution for game streaming as the response delay is too long for that. But for any other tasks, it’s ok. The app offers stability and proper display scaling (in most cases), which is very important for convenient work. If you’re looking for a technical support tool, you may lack a file system manager, though.

Compatibility – 5/5

You can install the Chrome Remote Desktop client on Windows, macOS, and Linux via your Chrome browser, which is very easy to do. Use the Android or iOS app to establish a connection and add the device to your contacts list. After that, you will be able to access your computers in a single tap if they’re active at the moment.

In-app Purchases

This application is totally free independently of your use purposes. You can integrate it into your corporate communication system or use it only for private tasks. There’s no subscription fee as well as no advertisements.

Chrome Remote Desktop is an excellent remote control service with a basic set of features. It’s a reliable tool for remote work on demanding software and for providing technical support to people all over the world.
